TUES COVID UPDATE - 1164 NEW NSW CASES - NOT ENOUGH PFIZER SAYS HEALTH MINISTER BUT GET VACCINATED
Health Minister Brad Hazzard admits this morning there is not enough Pfizer vaccine in NSW but says, "go and get vaccinated. Not getting vaccinated is self-entitled and indulgent in the extreme in the middle of a pandemic. Go and get vaccinated and be fair to the rest of the community".
Hawkesbury - we'll have an update as soon as we have numbers on today's numbers. Currently there are 85 active cases in the Hawkesbury.
"Simply put, there is not enough Pfizer in New South Wales or anywhere in the two major states – New South Wales or Victoria – for the people who are now wanting it," said Minister Hazzard.
"We’re certainly asking the federal government to try and get us more Pfizer vaccine. What I would say is for older patients, for older residents, you can also have AstraZeneca, so if you’re 18 or over, have AstraZeneca."
The Premier says get Astra Zeneca if you can't get Pfizer, she said it was important to get jabs and says if "you want to participate in certain freedoms" you must get vaccinated.
She said that by the end of this week we will probably get to 70% of first doses and adds, "how wonderful would it be to welcome all Aussies overseas back for Christmas".
Meanwhile there are 871 people in hospital, 143 are in ICU, and 58 are on ventilators.
There have been 96 COVID-related deaths in NSW since June 16.
