Severe Weather Warning - damaging winds - Saturday evening
More wind may well be on the way…just released now - 4.38pm - by Bureau of Meteorology and Early Warning Network, this alert includes parts of Greater Sydney area and the potentially affected area on the map could flow into and include the Hawkesbury, so just be aware and batten down the hatches if you haven’t already.
BOM says, “damaging winds, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h continue to impact areas of the Sydney Metropolitan, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Hunter, Northern Tablelands and Mid North Coast Districts. “The threat of damaging winds will ease by late Saturday into possibly early Sunday morning," says BOM. “Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Katoomba, Cessnock, Maitland, Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Armidale, and Goulburn,” says BOM.
It’s all the result of the deep low-pressure system to the south of NSW which has built a strong gradient of pressure across the state, says BOM, producing strong and gusty westerly winds.
“As this low shifts into the Tasman Sea later tonight, this gradient will relax and winds will ease,” says BOM.
