P-plater caught doing 132km/h in 80 zone at Colo Heights – handed fine of over $3000

Feb 8, 2021

A provisional driver has been fined more than $3000 after he was detected allegedly travelling at more than 45km/h over the speed limit on Putty Road yesterday – Sunday.

About 2.30pm officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol were carrying out speed enforcement operations on Putty Road when they detected a Subaru Impreza allegedly travelling 132km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police stopped the car and spoke to the driver, a 20-year-old man from Londonderry.

Not only was the man speeding, he was not displaying p-plates and was driving a manual transmission Subaru, while his licence only allowed him to drive automatic vehicles.

The driver was issued infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, not display P-plates and not comply with conditions of licence.

The three offences attract a combined penalty of $3064 and 10 demerit points.

As the driver was also the registered owner of the vehicle, the number plates were confiscated for three months and his provisional licence was suspended on the spot for six months.
