Man charged with additional offences in relation to alleged murder of 9-year-old girl in January

Homicide detectives today charged a man with additional offences as part of investigations into the alleged murder of a girl in the Blue Mountains earlier this year.

The body of the girl was found in a barrel following a search near the Colo River on Tuesday January 18, after an extensive search.

Strike Force Buena was set-up by Blue Mountains Police Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, to investigate the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl after she was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday January 14.

Later that day, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a unit on Riley Street, Surry Hills and charged with her murder.

On Thursday 3 February, a search was carried out in bushland near Mt Wilson where two firearms and ammunition were found.

The items were seized and underwent forensic examination.

Following inquiries, Homicide detectives attended a correctional facility in Silverwater today - Thursday - and arrested the 31-year-old man.

He was charged with two counts of possess unregistered firearm, two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without licence/permit, and aggravated break and enter in company.

Additionally, he was charged with two counts of possess child abuse material for unrelated matters.

The man is due to appear before Penrith Local Court tomorrow - Friday.

Investigations under Strike Force Buena continue.
