Hawkesbury Police out on the water today
Hawkesbury Police Area Command officers are carrying out safety and enforcement on local waterways this weekend and they will be out patrolling today. Vessels are being checked for safety compliance and license requirements and some random breath testing has been carried out.
Chief Inspector Garry Sims APM, Customer Service Duty Officer at Windsor Police Station, said, “We take a zero tolerance to alcohol related offences. Not only the master of the vessel can be breath tested. Skiers also are subject to testing. Our approach is not designed to restrict enjoyment but to keep everyone safe on our waterways.”
The Hawkesbury River is a very popular inland waterway. Chief Inspector Sims added “We have had 10 drownings in the past five years. Many of these could have been avoided and our objective is to keep people safe.”
