Freak storm blasted Glossodia Saturday - damage to roads, at least 20 homes, and vehicles

It came through at around 5.30pm yesterday and while many areas of the Hawkesbury escaped unscathed, Glossodia was, literally, at the heart of the storm which swept across our region.

Around 20 homes were damaged by falling trees, at least one tree was set alight, and power is still off for some residents, with numerous power poles down - and the devastation only took 20 minutes, such was the ferocity of the storm.

Glossodia RFS received the first call at 5.39pm and were quickly on scene. It soon became apparent this was no normal storm and other units were requested.

RFS units from Glossodia, Wilberforce, Freemans Reach, Kurrajong, Tennyson, and Richmond Fire and Rescue, attended.

SES units are still on scene today.

Resident Kimberley Allen told the Post, “In all of the 33 years that I have lived in Glossodia, I would say this was one of the worst storms I ever recall happening to hit this suburb.

“It was as though we were in the eye of the storm. It didn’t last that long, but the damage it has caused is unbelievable.”

Glossodia RFS has been out again today helping locals clean up.
