FLOOD OVERVIEW TUES - MAJOR FLOODING ABOVE 2021 FOR HAWKESBURY – COLO RIVER MAY EXCEED 1978 FLOOD



MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT NORTH RICHMOND, WINDSOR, LOWER PORTLAND, WISEMANS FERRY, AND PUTTY ROAD



Morning, and welcome to Tuesday when we can expect high winds and heavy rain and high flood levels, in most cases above the 2021 floods, according to BOM’s alert this morning.


The Putty River may even see a flood level above the 1978 event - more details on that below.


Heavy rainfall over the past week has caused major flooding in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.


Further heavy rainfall over the weekend and into Tuesday has the potential to cause renewed and higher flooding along the Upper Nepean, Nepean, Hawkesbury, and Colo Rivers.


Major flooding above the March 2021 event is occurring at some locations along the Upper Nepean, Hawkesbury, and Colo Rivers. Forecast rainfall for Tuesday may cause further renewed rises.


A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current which includes the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.



Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean

Major flooding above or at levels similar to the March 2021 event is occurring along the Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean Rivers.


The Hawkesbury River at North Richmond may reach around 14.00 metres early Wednesday morning, with major flooding similar to the March 2021 event. Further rises possible.


The Hawkesbury River at Windsor may reach around 13.00 metres Wednesday morning, with major flooding above the March 2021 event. Further rises possible.


The Hawkesbury River at Sackville may reach the major flood level (9.70 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with flooding similar to the March 2021 event. Further rises possible.


The Hawkesbury River at Lower Portland may reach around 8.50 metres 09:00 am Tuesday, with major flooding above the March 2021 event. Further rises possible.


The Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry may reach around 4.70 metres around 01:00 pm Tuesday on the high tide, with major flooding above the March 2021 event. Further rises possible


Colo River:

Major flooding is occurring along the Colo River at Putty Road.


The Colo River at Putty Road may reach around 13.00 metres 06:00 am Tuesday, with major flooding above the March 2021 and March 1978 events.
