Car plunges into river at Wisemans, lucky escape for driver as Toyota sinks in deep water

Feb 21, 2021

A very lucky escape for a 76-year-old woman yesterday – Saturday – when the car she was driving along Singleton Road, Wisemans Ferry suddenly veered off the road and plunged into the Hawkesbury River at 1.10pm.

The woman was able to get out of the driver’s seat of the white Toyota and luckily was picked-up by a father and son who had heard the crash and steered their boat to the now floating car.

As they got the driver onto their boat, the car sank approximately 10metres from the river bank in deep water.

The driver was returned to shore on the Gunderman side of the river where Police and Ambulance attended along with the Toll Air Ambulance. After being brought ashore, the driver was treated for an injury to her right leg and other injury assessments, including shock.

The driver was flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are investigating why the incident happened.
