Australia Day on the Hawkesbury cut down in size – fireworks still on though

Jan 12, 2022

It’s yet another victim of COVID – the annual Australia Day event will still be going ahead on January 26 but it will be smaller than planned to make it COVID-safe.

Fireworks on the Hawkesbury…

Kids will be disappointed – and maybe a few young at heart adults too – the carnival rides and activities, and the emergency services display, will not be held.

Hawkesbury Council – who run the annual event – announced today that “in the interest of public health and safety, changes have been made to the planned Australia Day on the Hawkesbury event on Wednesday, 26 January”.

The event is being held at Windsor’s Governor Phillip Park, from 7pm to 9pm on Australia Day and you can still rock up and enjoy a picnic on the shores of the Hawkesbury River.

There will be light entertainment, and a small selection of food trucks. Visitors can bring their own picnic or buy their food on the night.

The evening will end with the ever-popular fireworks display – let’s just hope it isn’t raining.

The Council’s Australia Day Awards Ceremony and Citizenship Ceremony will still take place but will be moved to an online format.

Australia Day on the Hawkesbury has been assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council through a $22,000 grant to support the event.
