Waratah Showjumping returns to Sydney for exhilarating 3rd World Cup

Waratah Showjumping (WSJ) is gearing up for its highly anticipated 3rd World Cup, set to take place at Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) over two weekends in August. The event kicks off with a Warm Up Weekend, followed by the thrilling World Cup weekend, attracting top riders from Australia’s eastern states and even a few from New Zealand, adding an international flavour to the competition.

With over 550 horses, 330 riders, and an impressive 3,300 rounds of jumping, WSJ is a grand affair. The action unfolds in three arenas, keeping participants and officials busy as they navigate the vast SIEC grounds.

eDNA testing confirms presence of Platypus in Kurrajong and Bilpin

Recent lab results from an extensive eDNA testing campaign have confirmed the presence of Platypus in the wider Kurrajong and Bilpin areas. The community science initiative, organised with the support of the Hawkesbury Environment Network (HEN) and Dr. Michelle Ryan from the University of Western Sydney (UWS), aimed to locate Platypus habitats, especially in the aftermath of devastating fires and floods.

Lower Portland Ferry saved for a year but out of the water for repairs soon

A last minute deal with Lower Portland Ferry operator TONO by the Hawkesbury and Hills Councils, will see the service continue to operate until September 2024. 

Funding details were not provided for the extended contract. However, NSW government’s part-funding continues until June 30, 2024 and both councils said they are in discussions with the NSW Government to continue to secure a longer-term funding arrangement.

Doubt over Hawkesbury’s infrastructure projects amidst NSW Government’s debt woes

A cloud of uncertainty hovers over Hawkesbury’s two most eagerly anticipated major infrastructure projects. The Pitt Town Bypass and third crossing over the Hawkesbury River  Richmond are aimed at bolstering flood resilience,  providing critical evacuation routes and easing traffic congestions 

While a combined $600 million has been set aside by State and  Federal governments, the new Minns administration in Macquarie Street is grappling with a record  mountain of debt,  inherited from the former Liberal National Party government.
